According to nymag.com, John Galliano has been fired from Christian Dior. Sidney Toledano, Dior’s president and CEO, stated: “I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are a total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior.”
Galliano’s dismissal was followed by the recent event of John Galliano slurring racist comment that was tape recorded. A woman who happened to sit by Galliano at a Paris café called La Perle, claimed to be victim of racial remarks and happened to catch it on a video. You can watch the video here.
“Following a meeting between Galliano and the three plaintiffs at a Paris police station yesterday, a spokeswoman from the Paris prosecutor’s office said that the police inquiry would likely continue through the end of the week. After that, the matter would be passed on to the prosecutor’s office, where it would be decided if the accusations against Galliano are worthy of charges being filed.” -nymag.com
Christian Dior’s show will go on as scheduled, which is this week Friday.
I honestly don’t know what to make of all this. I really do admire John Galliano as a brilliant designer. How can one be sure that this clip is not completely biased against Galliano? We only saw part of the clip, which doesn’t tell us what triggered him to be this way on the video clip. I mean, for crying out loud, he’s in jail for slurring. I understand that the comment was racist and all, but I feel that his status of being someone so famous is working against him.
